
HILLSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE (HCC) ELECTRICAL LINE WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM INFORMATION
The TECO Tampa Electric Scholarship Opportunity
Hillsborough Community College (HCC) and Tampa Electric (TECO) partnered to invest in the Electrical Line Worker Training Program through the HCC Foundation and Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education. The Hillsborough Community College Electrical Line Worker Training Program is a scholarship-based program designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and basic skills needed when seeking a career in the electric utility industry as an Apprentice Line Worker. Our training program prepares scholarship recipients to apply for the TECO Apprentice Line Worker position (during TECO’s posting window).

SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS:

- You will receive an email from HCC-ICCE staff to attend Discovery Bootcamp (pre-program orientation), to register for the boot camp, the cost is $93.00.
- Attend the Bootcamp Program: Saturday, July 12, 2025
- Bootcamp Location: HCC Brandon Campus
- The top scoring 16 (top tier) students plus 8 alternates who pass the boot camp will then be required to pass the below eligibility requirements; if applicable
- Pass the BSTB Battery Standard Aptitude Test
- Pass a Level 2 background check
- Pass a drug test – Students must pass the drug screen, if you fail the required drug screen you will not be eligible for the scholarship due to the requirements of the related employment opportunity. This eligibility requirement includes but is not limited to recreational drugs, including medical marijuana.

If all requirements are met, 16 students will receive a TECO Scholarship Award totaling $6,500.00, the full cost of the program via email with a link to register for the Electrical Line Worker Program. If all the requirements are not met, please refer to #6 under FAQ’s.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s):
- This scholarship opportunity is intended exclusively for your program fee and program-related expenses; you are responsible for personal expenses. Attendance is required for all program dates and times.
- All communication is via email; check your spam and inbox for emails from HCC-ICCE regarding the Electrical Line Worker Program. Allow 2 to 3 business days for applicable replies/notifications.
- Only one scholarship per individual.
- You cannot pay out of pocket.
- The Bootcamp will take place outside in the elements and you will be expected to perform physical tasks/activities. Endurance and stamina are important. Bootcamp tasks may be as follows; but not limited to strenuous: Lifting, digging, climbing, and walking.
- You will receive a refund for the Bootcamp registration fee if: You do not want to attend the Bootcamp. You do not pass the Bootcamp. You do not pass the BSTB Test.

- What does alternate mean? An alternate is an individual that did not score in the top tier at the boot camp but was selected to go through the process should one of the top tier not be able to move forward in the process. You will be notified that you are an alternate and will be required to fulfill all the eligibility requirements. Alternates will only be eligible for the scholarship if the top tier do not meet the eligibility requirements. If you do not want to move forward as an alternate, please refer to #7 under FAQ’s.
