The TECO Tampa Electric Scholarship Opportunity
The Hillsborough Community College Electrical Line Worker Training Program is a scholarship-based program designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and basic skills needed when seeking a career in the electric utility industry as an Apprentice Line Worker. Our 4-month training program prepares scholarship recipients to apply for the TECO Apprentice Line Worker position (during TECO’s posting window). Hourly wages start at $26.98 and in time, can increase to $50.00 per hour or more. TECO is very dedicated to the safety of its team members and offers an excellent benefits package.

- Receive approval from HCC-ICCE staff to attend Discovery Bootcamp (allow 2 to 3 business days).
- Receive a link to register for the mandatory Discovery Bootcamp Assessment Course (Cost $93).
- Attend Discovery Bootcamp Assessment Course on Saturday, October 5, 2024, 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. SHARP at the HCC Brandon Campus.
- The highest scoring 16 Students who pass the assessment will then be required to pass a background check and drug screening test.
- Receive a link to register for the Electrical Line Worker Course (allow 2 to 3 business days).
Application requirements:
- 18 years old or older (By start of the program)
- High school diploma/GED (By start of the program)
- Valid driver license

- Receive an approval email from HCC-ICCE staff to attend the Discovery. Bootcamp (pre-program orientation).
- Receive a link to register for the Bootcamp; fee is $93.00.
- Attend the Bootcamp Program: Saturday, February 22, 2025 . Location: HCC Brandon Campus
- The top 36 students with the highest scores from the Bootcamp will be required to: Pass the BSTB Battery Standard Aptitude Test. Pass a Level 2 Background check. Pass a Drug screening test
If all requirements are met, 36 students will receive a TECO Scholarship Award totaling $6,500.00, the full cost of the program via email with a link to register for the Electrical Line Worker Program. If all the requirements are not met, please refer to #6 under FAQ’s.

- This scholarship opportunity is intended exclusively for your program fee and program-related expenses; you are responsible for personal expenses. Attendance is required for all program dates and times.

- Only one scholarship per individual
- You cannot pay out of pocket.
- The Bootcamp will take place outside in the elements and you will be expected to perform physical tasks/activities. Endurance and stamina are important. Bootcamp tasks may be as follows; but not limited to strenuous: Lifting, digging, climbing, and walking.
- You will receive a refund for the Bootcamp registration fee if: You do not want to attend the Bootcamp. You do not pass the Bootcamp. You do not pass the BSTB Test.
