Through this course participants will learn multiple techniques in how to improve their way of living through the use of weatherization. Qualified participants will learn how to examine commercial and residential structures and where there are areas of energy waste and how to improve upon them. They will also learn the components that make a building less efficient whether it is faulty air conditioning, heating system deficiency or other structural aspects. Also discussed will be the health concerns that poor environment quality can cause (lead paint, asbestos, radon gas, mold and mildew). These goals will be achieved by the student learning how to use gas testers, blower door systems, thermal imaging and so much more. By the end of the course the student will be a qualified Building auditor.
Tampa – The United States Department of Energy awarded a grant to WorkNet Pinellas funds to implement weatherization training to improve energy efficiency in residential and commercial properties. As a designated partner, Hillsborough Community College Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education (ICCE) now offers training for Weatherization Auditors and Building Inspector Analysts.
Weatherization training is being offered free of charge to qualified applicants who are 18 years of age or older. Priority will be given to veterans, unemployed workers and applicants who have construction or building related experience. Each participant will be placed in any one or combination of three weatherization certification courses: Weatherization Installer, Weatherization Auditor, or Building Inspector Analyst.
